In recent decades, women's rights in Latin America have advanced significantly. However, there is still a long way to go in issues such as salary equity, access to education and gender violence.
Notable advances:
1. Parity laws: Countries such as Mexico and Argentina have implemented laws to guarantee the equal participation of women in politics.
2. Reproductive rights: In several countries, such as Argentina and Colombia, reforms have been approved that guarantee access to legal termination of pregnancy, a historic advance for reproductive rights.
3. Greater access to education: The gender educational gap has decreased considerably, allowing more women to complete higher education.
Pending challenges:
Pay equity: Women still earn, on average, 20% less than men for the same work.
Gender violence: Femicide and domestic violence continue to be serious problems in the region.
Political representation: Although there is progress, it is still necessary to ensure that women occupy more spaces of power and decision-making.
Participating in social movements, voting consciously, and educating the next generations are essential steps to continue moving forward.
